Over the last two years, we have taken wonderful steps towards executing the tasks laid out in our strategic plan with regards to post B’nei Mitzvah teen engagement. We hired our very first full time Director of Teen Engagement, Rebecca Levine, who brought new life to our middle school and high school youth programming. We have increased our local chapter programming, including regular Shabbat dinners, started a new Teen Leadership Board and seen a surge of participation in regional conventions-to name a few of Rebecca’s accomplishments.
As many of you are aware, a few months back Rebecca informed us of her decision to step down from her position at Beth El to begin exploring opportunities for the next stage of her life and we began the task of filling her shoes.
After a national search, and many hours of work and coordination by our amazing search committee [Rabbi Greyber, Tal Lewin Wittle, Eric Lipp, Scott Schwartz, Susan Sugarman Kirsch, Caryn Rossi, Casey Baker and Elisabeth Albert Gerson], we are pleased to announce that this July, we will welcome Averyl Edwards to our staff.

We are confident that Averyl’s outgoing personality and experience working with Hillel will give us and our post B’nei Mitzvah youth the passion and commitment to continue to expand our youth engagement at Beth El and in the greater Jewish community.
Please feel free to reach out to Averyl and welcome her into our community at averyl@betheldurham.org
