Mary Berman

June 27, 2016 by bethel 2 Comments

Dear Congregants,
This is some history of a former long-time member of Beth El . I will guess none of you knew her or heard of her, except possibly current member Sam Gross.
She is/was Mary Berman, and she and her husband Sam owned a department store in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Berman’s devotion to Beth El is felt to this day.
She had a Trust Fund set up in her will, and each year the rabbi, president and coordinator meet to decide how the money in this Trust will be distributed.
How fortunate we are that this helps our budget process.
I have longer, more descriptive information — if any of you would like to read it, I am happy to email it to you.
hugs,
Gladys

      Dear Gladys,
I was delighted to hear your comments about Mary Berman. I got to know her fairly well and bought merchandise in her store. When ever Mother visited me she had to visit Mrs. Berman. The two of them became good friends and very close.
