Just a Pair of Shoes

February 23, 2016 by bethel Leave a Comment

BETH EL SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE AND THE MEN OF BETH EL (THE MoB)
COLLECTING MEN’S SHOES OF ALL SIZES FOR URBAN MINISTRIES
We all try to empathize. We try to get inside the experience of others, to feel what it must be like to be in their shoes. We want to help.
But what if they – literally – have no shoes? We have neighbors who face that, who have only a broken or worn pair of shoes, or a totally inappropriate pair, or yes, no shoes, who have a chance at a job or an interview but feel stupid or ashamed or inappropriate? What if they had a chance at an outdoor job, but no work boots? Or an indoor job, but only have worn sneakers?
What if their needs are more basic, and they just need shoes for walking? You can help. Walk in their shoes – and then let them walk in yours! If you have any men’s shoes that are in good condition or boots in your closet that you’ve outgrown, either literally or metaphorically, please share them. Help others help themselves.
The need in winter is especially severe. Help now! From now to Feb. 28 especially! A box will be in the Beth El lobby. Any pair of shoes or boots donated between now and the Social Action Fundraiser on Feb. 28, will mean $3 off the suggested Fundraiser minimum donation of $25. Just put a slip of paper with your name on it in the shoes and leave them in the lobby, and Social Action will take care of the rest. Or bring the shoes with you on Feb. 28 to the Fundraiser!
