6:00 PM - 7:30 PMDurham Public LibrarySteve Goldberg will be sharing Abe's story at the Durham Public Library.
Abe Piasek was 13 years old in 1942 when he was taken from his family – he never saw his parents or his little sister again.
He spent the next three years forced to work in three slave labor camps in Poland and Germany. When he was liberated in 1945, he was 16 and a half years old and weighed just 75 pounds.
Join Steve Goldberg, history teacher and friend of Abe's, as he shares Abe’s story via a dozen curated video clips of Abe’s public speeches, as well as personal interviews Steve conducted with Abe and his family.
Abe passed away in 2020 at the age of 91; three days before he died, he asked Steve to “keep telling my story.” Steve has now shared Abe’s story more than 125 times and with more than 6,200 people.
Register for a reminder in the days before the event itself. Seating is first come first served, please make sure to allow time for parking and navigating within the library.
