Please join us for the 5th Annual MoB (Men of Beth El) Brunch and Membership get together on Sunday September 17. The brunch starts at 10:15 am in the Social Hall and promises to be a fun- and food-filled event. We’ll schmooze, meet new members and discuss MoB activities for the coming year. Suggested donation is $15. This is also a membership event, so please renew your membership or join (still a bargain–$18– assuming Fed interest rates stay low).
After the brunch, starting at 11:30, Ralph Snyderman who has been a member of Beth El for over 40 years will give a delightful talk entitled “From Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, to Chancellor at Duke: The unlikely journey.”
As the son of immigrants from the pogroms in the Ukraine and growing up in the hard scrapple streets of Brooklyn, it was less than obvious that he was slated to become Duke’s Chancellor for Health Affairs. “Being a member of the Beth El congregation has long been important to me and my family and I will always treasure my son Ted’s Bar Mitzvah and education at Beth El. I look forward to sharing my stories about the influences and opportunities that allowed me to become a physician-scientist, an officer in a biotechnology company, Duke’s Chancellor and an advocate for healthcare reform.”
Ralph’s story has been published as a book entitled “A Chancellor’s Tale: The transformation of Academic Medicine.” Autographed books will be available at a significant discount with proceeds going to Beth El.
This promises to be, yet again, an enjoyable and informative morning with your fellow MoB-ites. Truly, a MoB brunch you can’t refuse.
